Independent PE

CCS Independent PE

This year CCS has decided to replace our on-campus PE Program with an independent-style PE Program that will allow students to explore a more expansive and creative avenue in the area of athletics for credit. The economic climate we are facing, in addition to a limited PE facility, has led us to make this change. Our hope is that once the new building has been constructed, we would like to restart our former on-campus PE Program. In the interim, our Presidential-Fitness Curriculum that we are adopting for Independent PE has a very unique and exciting platform for the students here at CCS to explore their own sports of interest.

Participation in the Off-Campus PE Program can be monitored by an instructor, teacher, coach or parent for qualification of independent PE credits. Daily logs must be kept to meet the state standards expectation of 200 minutes per-week and will be approved and evaluated by the CCS Athletic Director (Alex Boshaw) on a quarterly basis. It is expected that this log be ongoing throughout the semester/year and be submitted for credit at the end of each quarter. Students who are enrolled in the independent program should meet the following criteria.

1.      Comply with all Independent PE policies and procedures.

2.      Participate in the Presidential Fitness Test once per quarter (CCS Campus)

3.      Complete a minimum of 200 hours of coursework/Physical Ed.

4.      Grading: students will receive either a “P” Passing or “F” failure

**It is important to understand the difference between our PE Program here at CCS and our Sports Program. Our high school sports program will still be offering Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Baseball, etc… and will grant one semester’s worth of credit per-sport played. Junior High sports will be offered each quarter and will provide one quarter’s worth of PE credit per sport.  If your child is not planning on playing a sport through CCS, Independent PE is mandatory.

Attached to this letter is further information about the Independent PE program, and contact information so if you have any questions you can reach us. We look forward to seeing you this year and expect to see great things from our God in all our children’s lives. To God Be the Glory!!

In His Service,

Jess Hetherington  CCS Principal

Alex Boshaw  CCS Athletic Director

Any junior or senior high student that would like to earn physical education credits will need to either play a sport or participate in independent PE.  For those students not participating in a sport, 200 minutes of physical activity per week will be required to earn PE credit.  During the first week of school, any child wishing to participate in independent PE will receive a log to be filled out and turned in at the end of each academic quarter to receive a PE grade.  They will also receive a list of sample activities to fulfill the requirements of independent PE.

Calvary’s junior and senior high students not involved in a team sport will be taking part in the “Presidents Physical Fitness” test at the end of each academic quarter.  We will take a day here at school to test the students in five categories.
